Gallery from ‘Mesa Vista’

This is a small room, built a century ago as part of a children’s TB hospital
Large window with great view (you’ll notice I brought Lazy Panda with me)
View of Flatirons, glancing to right out the window
Before they move a roommate in here, I’ll of course have a privacy curtain put up

I’ll be able to control the influx of fresh air and the room temperature, being right next to the window and the wall-mounted heating unit. One thing I’m NOT happy with is the toilet, which sits only about a foot off the floor and necessitates use of a booster seat, but I’ll make do (modesty forbids a photo).

First impressions of ‘Mesa Vista of Boulder’ are good

This morning I enjoyed two cups of strong, fresh-brewed black coffee and it was hot! Breakfast included several pieces of crisp bacon, scrambled eggs, and a muffin; portions were sufficient to leave my hunger satisfied. Lunch and dinner yesterday were both tasty and filling.

I slept well overnight, despite adjusting to a new bed with an air mattress. (My White Noise Machine served well to cover the noise of the mattress being kept fully inflated, which would have been a very annoying buzzing otherwise). With my door shut, I heard nothing from outside, and staff wasn’t wandering in for no apparent reason at random times.

The staff I’ve had contact with so far are friendly and efficient, happy to answer my questions.

I’m jaded by four years, four months, and four days spent at Elms Haven in Thornton since Christmas of 2017. I’m confident that my outlook on life in general will soon improve in this new environment, however!

The view from my south-facing window here on the 4th floor is impressive, by day and by night.

Time for a nap . . .

Delayed by a day, but bound for Boulder today for certain!

YIPPEE!!

I say this not knowing exactly what I’ll be walking into at Mesa Vista of Boulder — but I know what I’m leaving behind here at Elms Haven (and it’s only getting worse).

As soon as I get settled in and obtain the password to WiFi in the new facility, I’ll post an update here.

Update: I can well believe that this facility — Mesa Vista of Boulder — is a century old, but I have NO complaints about my room #415, located on the top floor with a scenic view to the south and west. I’ll be alone during the quarantine period (10 days?) but given the cramped quarters I’ll certainly need my White Noise Machine at night once a roommate moves in.

I’m hoping the food here is better-tasting with more generous servings, but time will tell. Grocery shopping for residents is on Wednesdays, so I’ll have time to judge whether i require an outside source of chow. It would be great if I could do away with this expense . . .

The TV provider here apparently doesn’t include Turner Classic Movies. BOO!!

It is quite cool in my room, so I’ll be able to take a nap this afternoon.

Right now, I want to talk to the Business Office here about the $700+ still in my account at Elms Haven.

Back tomorrow.

This is encouraging, but I still take it with a grain of salt:

See Americas’s Best Nursing Homes 2022 — Colorado. Note that Mesa Vista is among the highest-rated . . . However, you can find negative reviews for any facility and employees usually give 5-star ratings along with glowing reports. On balance, it doesn’t mean much either way! Starting tomorrow, I’ll be able to see for myself about my new home when I make the move back to Boulder, CO.

Moving back to Boulder on the 28th of April

This will certainly be a welcome change from present circumstances!

Addendum: I had to get a dose of the J&J vaccine this afternoon, because the new long-term care center requires it. I’d already had COVID before any vaccines were available, so I didn’t bother with it until now. My case of the virus was mild and brief.

I’ve noticed today that the staff responsible for the heavy lifting at Elms Haven is very sympathetic to me, but as the hours pass I’m more and more thrilled to be getting a change of scenery. There’s only so much a person can tolerate, and I’ve had more than my fair share in the past 4+ years here . . .

I could get used to this! (Even though I think Longmont’s Twin Peaks are more impressive.)

Boulder, CO man dies from Global Warming

See the New York Post report by clicking here. Excerpt copied below:

A Buddhist priest from Boulder said she knew Bruce and called his death “an act of compassion.”

“This guy was my friend. He meditated with our sangha [Buddhist community],” Dr. K. Kritee wrote. “This act is not suicide. This is a deeply fearless act of compassion to bring attention to climate crisis. We are piecing together info but he had been planning it for at least one year.”
