Max’s Journal 11/29/2012

By Max R. Weller

Yesterday about 4:30PM when I was on the corner of N. Broadway & U.S. 36, a young lady stopped and gave me an entire cheesecake from Whole Foods Market (I noticed the price tag later, $15.99); like a hog, I ate half of it last night along with chicken wings from King Soopers I’d planned to have for dinner. Assuming that Br’er Fox doesn’t get into the other half during my absence today, I’ll stuff myself with it tonight. Then this morning — despite my awareness of Gluttony as one of the Seven Deadly Sins — I took along my GladWare container full of scrambled eggs and fried potatoes prepared by the Thursday morning breakfast volunteers at Boulder Shelter for the Homeless. I enjoyed this meal while waiting for CU’s Norlin Library to open at 8AM, and watching Filthy Phil rummage through trash cans right in front of this imposing edifice of learning. (He stinks like a trash truck which has finished its route and is headed to the landfill). I was too hungry to let my appetite be ruined by the sight of this grubby bastard, who is a waste of good oxygen, IMO.

I’ve been keeping a daily log this month of November, recording $$$ received (not counting change or food and other items) and hours spent in my role as humble beggar in north Boulder. I’ll publish the results on Saturday. It’s the first time I’ve done this since I began around September of 2010, and so far it’s surprising to me.

It makes one shudder to ponder what sort of fool or sociopath may be chosen as the next “spokesperson” for Boulder’s homeless, and quoted frequently in silly articles by the Daily [Asswipe]. Let’s see: it used to be Joy Eckstine, one of the most ignorant people in re homelessness I’ve encountered anywhere; then it was Jim Budd, who is now languishing in Boulder County Jail after being arrested and charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors relating to a violent sexual assault. Maybe the local newspaper will get a clue instead, and realize that the transient rat packs are NOT representative of at least 80% of those defined as homeless (on the streets no longer than one month). Clean and sober and law-abiding folks in the latter, much larger group are perfectly able to speak for themselves. Neither an apologist/enabler nor a methhead/rapist is qualified to speak on their behalf.

BTW, I speak for myself here.

The Holiday Season is always hard for me, but I take comfort in a couple of old favorites. See The Christmas Guest by Helen Steiner Rice, narrated by Grandpa Jones and the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah, performed by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

What in Hell is wrong with people? Why do they continue to be so very racist in this day and age? It seems that little or nothing is expected from either Barack Obama or Jon Embree, and their supporters point the finger of blame at George W. Bush and Dan Hawkins, respectively. Bush left the White House in January of 2009. Hawkins had success as a head football coach at Boise State, before derailing the program at CU. It’s long overdue for black men who attain positions of authority to step up and start being accountable, and quit making excuses of any kind when things go badly on their watch. Embree, if anything, is a bigger crybaby than Obama — something I wouldn’t have thought possible before he was canned.

Beautiful full moon and partly cloudy skies overnight, which I noticed when the coyotes began their usual serenade and I peeked out from under my tarp. The solitude at my campsite is refreshing in every respect: mind, body, and spirit.

Are there other victims?

Panhandler alert: he’s neither disabled nor a vet

By Max R. Weller

Richard Grant (Boulder County Sheriff’s Office)
This clown has recently been observed “flying a sign” at the corner of N. Broadway & U.S. 36 in Boulder, CO, claiming that he is a disabled U.S. Marine. In fact, he’s a chronically homeless petty criminal from Denver who just recently got out of jail. Among his phony claims are that he served as a Marine in Operation Desert Storm, ca. 1991, when he would have been about 15 years of age; when asked where he underwent Marine boot camp training, he said it was at Fort Bragg in North Carolina — which is a U.S. Army post.
During the summer of 2011, Mr. Grant a.k.a. Denver King was the close friend of Drunk Steve, one of the regular panhandlers in north Boulder at that time. Denver King would ride a bicycle back and forth to Red’s Liquor, just down the street on N. Broadway, towing Drunk Steve in a kiddie trailer behind.
Not surprisingly, Mr. Grant fathered a child some time ago by a homeless woman (probably an at-risk adult) who has long since returned to Denver, and he apparently doesn’t pay one red cent in child support.
Possibly, Denver King may be panhandling at other locations in Boulder besides N. Broadway & U.S. 36. Wherever you may see him, I urge you not to give the lying asshole anything at all, except perhaps stale granola bars unfit for the local squirrels.

SNIP: Say No to Irresponsible Parenting

By Max R. Weller

See the website here.

I’ve suggested in the past that it would be good public policy in America to offer Free Vasectomies to homeless men. (This is another shortcoming of Obamacare, but that’s a different post). This, of course, would make it much more difficult for homeless women to get pregnant and bring forth homeless babies. It’s hard to believe, but a few homeless women do so deliberately!

Not too long ago here in Boulder, CO we had the case of a homeless woman who gave birth in somebody else’s home with only a so-called midwife to provide any kind of “professional” assistance in the process. Unfortunately, the baby died just days later from a staph infection. WTF? Infant mortality from staph infections is something belonging to the Third World, not to America in the 21st Century. I don’t know whether or not this same woman is still homeless now, but here’s a post she made on Facebook late last night:

Thank you to everyone for the awesome baby shower! wonderful friends, food and gifts! after inventory all I have left for the birth that I need is a tarp and towels. if anyone can help with any of that that would be awesome!

A tarp? I need a tarp because I sleep outdoors, and if I had a real home I probably wouldn’t need one, unless I was covering my cord of firewood out back. Is this woman still homeless and getting set to deliver another homeless baby?

Geez Louise, what a befuddled race of nincompoops we humans are!
