Lean times in the nursing home

So this morning I made up for it with breakfast: A fried egg & bacon sandwich w/ketchup (I order the components and put it together myself), and two large bowls of oatmeal w/brown sugar.

I won't be blimping up like the Missing Link, that's certain.

They never bring the egg salad sandwich (nor a substitute) I’m supposed to get as a snack around 8PM.

For lunch today I’ve ordered two bowls of split pea & ham soup, two barbecued pulled pork sandwiches, potato wedges, and some kind of (forgettable) dessert. Maybe I’ll sleep better tonight with a full belly . . .

The Missing Link, having been resupplied by his brother / cousin with chocolate and jerky, is once again stuffing his gaping maw night and day. I expect he’ll weigh close to 400 pounds by Christmas, if his heart doesn’t explode first, but this facility lets his morbid obesity go unchecked by a diet (which they could easily impose).

Of course, they seized my coffeemaker because I might scald myself with hot water. Logic is in short supply here . . .

There is never any detail of just how the Russians seek to interfere in our elections, and the claim that buying ads on Facebook will produce the outcome they desire is ridiculous. Social media itself is ridiculous, and exists purely for entertainment. My personal view is that gullible voters exist in equal numbers on both sides, and therefore cancel each other out.

I’m not aware of any credible evidence that Russia or any other foreign power has manipulated the vote count in any way, certainly not in the way that Democrats in the states of Illinois and Texas did in 1960.

Get a grip, people! Don’t let a lazy, hysterical news media peddle FAKE Russian Collusion 2.0 rather than doing actual reportage on issues, and nailing down how various candidates will effect the changes they tout. (You know, real journalism.)

On a moral and spiritual level, the spectacle of a relatively wealthy city allowing fellow Americans to lie in their own waste and drug-induced stupors on public sidewalks represents a degradation of the social compact and the commitment we have in a civilized society to maintain order and take care of fellow citizens in dire straits.

Like the denizens of Third World cities, San Franciscans are becoming inured to tragedies at their feet. It’s easier to look away, than to confront the ugly reality that California’s liberal elected officials have only made the situation worse for our most needy neighbors.

“Harm reduction” and “Housing First” are two of the failed policies being pushed by the homeless shelter / services industry all across America, and we can see the result in more homeless people on the streets than ever before.

I’ve never figured out precisely what it is they want, nor can I understand why they choose to live in Third World-style encampments, trashing their surroundings and hating society.

BTW, Darren O’Connor (a founder of BRW) is now a licensed attorney and has begun running ads on this Facebook page . . . For the sake of his clients, I hope he’s more effective as a legal advocate than he ever was as a homeless advocate.
