Volunteers are great! But . . .

I remember way back in early 2008, when I asked to volunteer with BSH in a couple of different capacities (based on my experience as a volunteer and paid staff member at shelter/services providers in other cities), I was turned down in a very condescending way by being told, “After you get on your feet and are in housing for a year, then you can volunteer here.” I’ve NEVER forgotten that.

They want the homeless to remain helpless and needy. Plus, they believe that involving do-gooders from the community increases the amount of donations they receive, and this seems to be true. It adds up to “More Homeless People = More Money” as I always say.
