At long last, sanity prevails — despite all of the hysteria surrounding this case, mostly generated by the victim’s mother who chose to put her young daughter’s name out there to the whole world. Thank you, Special Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.
Let the half-truths, outright lies, and paranoia end now — so that the young victim can begin to heal from the ridiculous drama of the past two years. She’s the one who matters most, not her half-crazed mother and certainly not the young man involved.
Disclosure: I was once a 17-year-old high school senior in the small town of Lexington, MO and I had a 14-year-old freshman girlfriend. That young lady would never have done what the victim in this case did, nor would I have done what the young man convicted of a misdemeanor charge in this case did. More to the point, my 14-year-old girlfriend’s parents, way back in 1973, weren’t asleep on the job!
